First Aid Basics is a freeware educational software created by Frantisek Korbel that contains basic information on medical first aid and can be used as an introduction to the medical help and as a prepare for the study of official publications.

First Aid Basics works under all 32-bit versions of Microsoft Windows (i.e. Windows 95 and later). It also runs under Linux with Wine Windows emulator.

Main characteristics

Contained are data on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), helping with infarction, pains, bites, stings, fractures, disjoints, hyperthermia, frostbites etc. One part describes first aid tools as bandages, plasters, medicines, recommended content of first aid kit and also progressions as to how they can be used. A separate part of the program focuses on accident prevention, how to avoid injuries and infection in daily life and also during first aid. A section contains a graphical presentation of the CPR procedure. This program also contains a glossary of frequently used medical terms and weblinks to informative web sites.

Video part

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Video part contains animation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation by one person. Included are instructions for step by step progression and simple time intervals recommendations.

From its introduction in September 2004 First Aid Basics was listed in more than 100 software archives and on some of them it was awarded by 5 stars - TopQualityFreware.com, BestVistaDownloads.com, MaxxDownload.com etc. Also some magazines included it on their CD - Freesoft and PC Space from Slovakia, Download.bg from Bulgaria, PC Update from Australia and Computer from Czech Republic.
